Robert Harwell
Robert L. Harwell II, is President of Hancock & Harwell, a rare coin and precious metal brokerage firm serving investors, collectors and the financial services industry since 1976.
Mr. Harwell has been a numismatist for almost 50 years and a full time coin dealer for over 30.
Bob is a life member of the American Numismatic Association, the American Numismatic Society and is a "Charter Member Dealer #15" of the Professional Coin Grading Service, Inc. and a Member Dealer since 1988 of the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation, both third party grading services.
Mr. Harwell is a Founding Member of the Industry Council for Tangible Assets (ICTA) and has served continuously on the Board of Directors since its inception in 1983. He has publicized articles about rare coins and the rare coin market.
Bob has been involved in the purchase and placement of numerous Mint State and Proof coins. He specializes in coins of special rarity or quality.
One such coin is the famous and Unique Pattern Indian Head Double Eagle U.S. Gold Coin (Judd 1776) purchased at auction in 1981 for $475,000, a record breaking price at the time for any U.S. Gold coin. This coin has been recently included as #7 in the Garrett & Guth book, "100 Greatest U.S. Coins" and valued by them in 2003 at 7.5 Million Dollars.
